Wizkid - 'More Love, Less Ego' audit: Afrobeats' greatest star culminates his widespread sound

Wizkid cemented himself as Afrobeats' greatest genius in 2020 with his raving success 'Essence'. The Tems-featured track (which was later remixed with extra vocals from Justin Bieber) was one of various features on the Nigerian craftsman's smooth fourth studio collection 'Made In Lagos', his best independent exertion yet. He proceeded to feature three nights at the 20,000-limit 'The O2' in London - which sold out in just shy of 15 minutes - last year off the rear of that record.

'Made In Lagos'' sonic takeoff from the vivacious sound of his initial two collections (2011's 'Superstar' and 2014's 'Ayo') go on with the properly named 'More Love, Less Ego'. "Everybody battles with their inner self and that is where I'm at" Wizkid told The Guardian recently about the title and his ongoing mentality. "I'm actually attempting to shed my inner self, similar to every other person."

The 13-track album sees the 32-year-old displaying his melodic mixing ability. Tracks like 'Cash and Love' and 'Blossom Cushions' see components of astounding jazz and R&B being installed into Wizkid's kind of Afropop, while unmistakable fusion of the South Africa-conceived, house music-obliged Amapiano development can likewise be tracked down across the record: take ongoing single 'Terrible To Me', which uses Amapiano-style, delicate moving 808 beats and serenade like vocals.

It's invigorating to see a pioneer like Wizkid adjust his sound to give proper respect to the ongoing pop hints of Africa.
